Proclamation By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Alabama, Inc. helps beautify and preserve our natural resources in our communities; and

WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Alabama began in Montgomery, Alabama on August 28, 1932 when 71 Alabama delegates who represented 50 Alabama Garden Clubs met and formed the Alabama Federation of Garden Clubs; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Federation of Garden Clubs became incorporated in 1954, thereby changing their name to The Garden Club of Alabama, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, currently The Garden Club of Alabama consists of 113 clubs statewide accounting for 2,296 members who are affiliates of the Deep South Region of the National Garden Clubs, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, through providing education, resources and networking opportunities, The Garden Club of Alabama is able to accomplish their mission of helping their members promote their love of gardening and environmental responsibility; and

WHEREAS by implementing the goals of The Garden Club of Alabama the communities and citizens are able to benefit and live in beautiful surroundings; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the week of June 4th through June 10, 2017, as

NATIONAL GARDEN CLUBS WEEK
in the State of Alabama

Given Under My Hand and the Great Seal of the Office of the Governor at the State Capital in the City of Montgomery on the 31st day of May 2017.
