Camellia Garden Club of District VI met on Sept. 21st, 2012 with their new “TOP SEEDS” Junior Garden Club. Located at the Adullam House Christian Academy on Highway 170 in Elmore County, we had a wonderful time with the six boys and six girls in the fourth grade. Their teacher, Mrs. Selman, joined us in decorating 12 container gardens, filling them with amended soil and planting and watering the winter gardens. The children selected spinach, carrots, broccoli, peas, cabbage and several kinds of lettuce and arugula. It was a sunny and hot day which was enjoyed by all. Meeting once each month, we will install, fill, plant and water a raised bed 4×8 donated by Russell Do It Center, Wetumpka at our next class period. We have three rain barrels to install once a good location is found. Plans for the February 2013 meeting will be to dedicate the beginning of a small orchard in honor of Arbor Day/Week. Camellia members took additional training this past summer by the 4H Division of Auburn University Extension Service to prepare for leading the class. Dedicated to the project are: Joanna Middlebrooks, Kristi Carr, and Co Chairs, Marie Updike and Janet Lewis. Thanks to Belinda Daugherty, we are proud owners of a brand new shiny red wheel barrow.

Blessed be our youth for they are our future.
Any day spent with them is a day blessed by God.
Teach them to play, to pray, and to garden, for in all these things they will find peace and love.
In this God will bless our gardens and us.
